While the match did not even start until hours later than it was scheduled to, Wozniacki took no time to defeat Wickmayer. She won the match in just 96 minutes.
Rain delayed the match for most of the day. Play was finally started around 9:30. Immediately after the first point was scored play was halted again. This time the match was stopped for 12 minutes to dry up the lines on the court that were still slick.
Wozniacki took advantage of mistakes by Wickmayer to win the match between the two 19 year olds. Wickmayer committed 40 unforced errors.
Due to the rain that stopped play for most of Saturday, both women's semifinal matches were play at the same time. Clijsters defeated Serena Williams to advance to the finals on Sunday in the other semifinal match. If the rain stays away on Sunday the US Open tennis 2009 results will tell who the women's champion for the tournament is.
