It was obvious by his reaction and words after the match that even Juan Martin Del Potro could not believe that he had just beaten the number 3 seed Rafael Nadal in the fashion that he did in their semifinal match on Sunday. But it is true and the US Open tennis 2009 results with Del Potro heading into his first major tournament final match on Monday.

Del Potro dominated Nadal during the whole 2 hours and 20 minutes of their semifinal match. Controlling the play from the start, Del Potro overpowered and out played Nadal. Through his powerful serves and volleys, Del Potro kept Nadal on the move going after the balls.

The number 6 seed Del Potro has now beaten Nadal three times this year. After Sunday’s 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 lost to Del Potro, Nadal leads their match total 4-3.

Nadal advanced to the semifinals with his win over Fernando Gonzalez on Saturday. Nadal dominated Gonzalez in the 34 minutes they played on Saturday to complete their quarterfinal match they started on Thursday night when rain suspended play. Rain continued all day Friday forcing them to wait till Saturday to finish their match.

Del Potro was able to defeat Marin Cilic before the rain started on Thursday to advance to the semifinals. Now he is heading to the finals of the 2009 US Open.

After his crushing defeat in the semifinals, Nadal showed the true champion he is. He graciously applauded the crowd in the stadium and gave an interview for them.

Meanwhile, Del Potro was in disbelief of his accomplishment. For a long time he just sat in his chair on the side of the court soaking in the fact that he just dominated one of the best tennis players in the world and that he will be playing for the 2009 US Open championship.

During his on court interview to the crowd in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Del Potro told them this was the "best moment of my life." He went on to say "I'm in the final!"

Del Potro will face the winner of the other men's semifinal match between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. But for now Del Potro said he was going to go get a "massage and go to bed."

Del Potro was in no rush to leave the court. He was truly soaking in the moment and rightfully so. After the men's final on Monday, the US Open tennis 2009 results just may have Del Potro winning the title of his favorite tournament.
