US Open Tennis 2009 Results: Federer Goes For Sixth US Open Title

Fans packed the Arthur Ashe Stadium for the semifinal match on Sunday. They were not disappointed. Both players showed why they are two of the best tennis players in the world.

Djokovic and Federer battled for every point. Looking at the stats for the game, the two look almost identical. Federer had 7 aces, 3 double faults, 33 unforced errors and 49 winners. Djokovic had 6 aces, 4 double faults, 33 unforced errors and 31 winners.

The rain that had delayed play for Friday and Saturday gave way to beautiful blue skies. The players did have to deal with a wind that would gust and swirl inside the stadium through out the match.

Each player performed incredible feats on the court. It was a match that the fans did not want to see end. But in the end Federer just beat Djokovic in each set for the victory.

With the win Federer will return to defend his US Open title and play for his sixth straight. For the second year in a row, rain has caused him to play for the title on Monday. The title match is scheduled for 4 pm ET.

This year Federer will play Juan Martin Del Potro for the 2009 US Open title. Earlier on Sunday, Del Potro dominated his match against Rafael Nadal. This will be Del Potro's first major title match.

Federer is accustomed to being in title matches. Monday's title match will be his 18th appearance out of the last 19 Grand Slam finals. If Federer has his way on Monday, the US Open tennis 2009 results will show him winning his sixth US Open title and three of the Grand Slam titles this year.
