US Open Tennis 2009 Results With Clijsters Defending Her 2005 US Open Title

Both Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters had the tournament of a lifetime. When the US Open tennis 2009 tennis results of the women's finals were done, it was Clijsters defending her 2005 US Open title.

This year's tournament is the first time Clijsters has played in the tournament since she won it in 2005.

The women's singles of the 2009 US Open has been filled with stories. From the Cinderella story of Melanie Oudin to Serena Williams' outburst at a line judge in her semifinal match. None of the stories were any better than those of the two ladies that played in the women's final.

The 2009 US Open women's final match was the first official meeting for Clijsters and Wozniacki. It was filled with exciting play by both players.

Many of the matches went to several deuces. Every point was hard fought for with long rallies between Clijsters and Wozniacki.

Clijsters play was inconsistent through out the whole match. A mixture of errors with winners caused Clijsters to struggle during the first set, but she manage to pull out the first set with a score of 7-5. She would hold onto win the second set and her second US Open title.

When she hit the winning match point Clijsters went down on her knees and tears of joy field her eyes. She had come back and even with a little rust, Clijsters played better than ever.

Until the women's final match, Wozniacki had only lost one set in the tournament. Clijsters lost only two sets during first major since coming back.

Clijsters is returning from taking over two years off. She took this time to get married and have a child. Her daughter and husband were both in the stands watching the match. Clijsters started training to return to tennis only about seven months ago. Clijsters is the first mother to win a major tennis title.

On her way to winning the women's title, Clijsters defeated both Venus and Serena Williams. She rounded out her US Open tennis 2009 results by beating the number 9 seed Wozniacki for her second title. Clijsters is back and Wozniacki has many more Grand Slam women's finals she will be playing in to come
