For four days in October Virginians will be able to save on their purchases of their appliances. The 2009 Virginia Energy Star sales tax holiday for appliances starts on Friday, October 9th and goes through Monday, October 12, 2009.

During these four days, products with the Energy Star logo are exempt from tax if it is purchased for personal use. The product must also be priced under $2,500.

The qualifying energy efficient products that can be purchased tax exempt include refrigerators, room air conditioners, washers, ceiling fans and programmable thermostats. The products that qualify for the sales tax holiday must meet the Energy Star program requirements.

Also during the sales tax holiday weekend for appliances, shoppers in Virginia can also purchase eligible water efficient products without paying sales tax. The water efficient products that qualify for the sales tax holiday will carry the WATER SENSE logo. These include items such as high-efficient toilets and urinals and bathroom sink faucets.

With the purchase of these new energy efficient products, Virginians will save money on their purchases during the 2009 Virginia Energy Star sales tax holiday for appliances. Consumers will also continue to save money on their water and power bills with these more efficient products over their older ones. This is good for the consumers' pocketbooks and for the environment.
