On Dancing with the Stars Karina Smirnoff thrills the audience with her dancing some times in rather skimpy outfits. In a recent PETA anti-fur public service announcement ad, Smirnoff bears it all. In the "I'd rather dance naked than wear fur" campaign, Smirnoff is naked except for her dancing shoes and some jewelry.
Smirnoff has been wearing furs since she was growing up in Russia. That was before she watched a program on the slaughter of baby seals for their furs. The program touched Smirnoff.
She now wants people to understand you can still be sexy and stylish without wearing furs and millions of animals having to be slaughtered. In a video done for PETA, Smirnoff tells the viewers, "I did wear fur, especially when I was little. But there are ways of being warm and being fashionable without being cruel."
Smirnoff continues to say, "You have a choice as an individual, you have a choice in the press, in the world, whether to make a statement that you do support killing animals or make a statement when you don't. And you can still be as chic as you can possibly want to be."
This is not the first time a DWTS star has bared all for an anti-fur PETA ad. The star of Jackass and season eight of DWTS, Steve-O went naked for two PETA PSA ads. Steve-O's ads were titled; "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" and "Ink, not mink." The ink one played off of Steve-O's many tattoos. When PETA interviewed Steve-O as part of his campaign, he said "Abuse yourself all you want, just leave the animals out of it. Don't wear fur."
PETA definitely hopes that using stars such as DWTS Steve-O and Karina Smirnoff being naked in their ads that they can help create awareness about the millions of animals that are brutally slaughtered each year just for their fur. As Smirnoff calls it in her video; it is just "murder."
