The sound of a gentle rain on a metal roof is often like rocking a baby to sleep. Now if you replace your old roof with a new metal roof that has the appropriate pigmented coatings on it then you can claim the tax credit. The metal roof must have this listed be the type: Metal (~2,000 metal roofs) to qualify.
If you prefer to replace your old roof with asphalt you can also qualify for the tax credit. Asphalt roofs come in two types. For sloped residential roofs they will need to be type: Shingles (~50). For flat roofs they will need to be type: Modified Bitumen (~50).
In addition to the above listed requirements, in order for the new roof to qualify for the tax credit it must also meet the Energy Star requirements for roofing products. These are just some of the energy efficient products that qualify for the energy efficient tax credit. Learn about more of them here.
Add a new roof with the appropriate insulation R-value in the ceiling or attic and your house will be very comfortable on those hot or extremely cold days. You will also see a reduction in your power bills. Tack on the amount you can claim on your taxes with the Federal tax credit for energy efficiency and you will be sleeping good at night, rain on a metal roof or not.
