Oregon LeGarrette Blount May Play Again

On September 5th, Oregon's LeGarrette Blount found out he was suspended for the season and would not play any more football this season. Since this is his senior year, that meant he would never play college football again. Well not so fast. There is a chance he could be reinstated and allowed to play again this season.

Blount was suspended for punching Boise State's Byron Hout after Oregon's season opener loss. Read about the incident here.

Blount was Oregon's star running back. He had already been in trouble with the team earlier in the year. Then came his unjustifiable actions after the game with Boise State live on TV.

Oregon's coach Chip Kelly decided to suspend Blount for the rest of the season. But he allowed him to continue to practice with the team.

Since then the school has had a phone call with Blount's parents that included attorneys from both sides. Kelly has consulted with Dr Harry Edwards and Tony Dungy and they have spoken with Blount.

Blount also recently wrote a letter to the school's newspaper apologizing for his actions. In his letter he states, "There is no justification for my behavior..." He continues on talking about how a student-athlete is suppose to handle victory and defeat with sportsmanship.

Kelly and Blount has signed an agreement that may now allow Blount to return to the field and finish out his college football career. The agreement outlines what is expected of Blount if he is ever going to get to play again this season.

Some of these requirements are that he attends his classes, stays out of trouble and continues to practice with the team. If Blount is able to do these things, then he possibly could play on November 7th against Stanford.

While Blount is extremely talented, it does not appear that Oregon is in desperate need for him to play. The only loss they have had this year was the open season game against Boise State. Their last two games they won by blowouts over California and Washington State.

From the moment of the incident after the Boise State game, there has been a debate on if Blount should have been suspended or not. The debate continues on, but now it includes if his suspension should be lifted. If his suspension is lifted, Blount will be back on the field with the Ducks.
