Simon's album was released in April,2008 by Starbuck's music line Hear Music. Just a few months later in July, Starbucks shut down the music line. Hear Music was a joint venture between Starbucks and Concord Music.
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Simon claims that Starbucks failed to properly promote her album by not having it available for sale in enough stores in the first months of its release.
The suit also claims that prices were later reduced once the album was in the stores. Simon is seeking unspecified damages against Starbucks.
Simon had to spend $100,000 of her own money on the recording. She also never received all of what was stated in the reduced contract.
A star singer in the 1970's and 1980's, Simon is most known for hits such as "You're So Vain" and "Anticipation." Both titles seem to fit her feelings towards Starbucks now.
It will be a while before the results of Carly Simon's lawsuit against Starbucks is decided, but Simon has something to anticipate now. Her new album "Never Been Gone" will be released this month by Iris Records. It is a remix of ten of her greatest hits and includes two new songs for fans.
