NC Appliance Rebate Could Save Shoppers Money

If approved, the NC appliance rebate could save shoppers money on energy-saving appliances next April. From April 22nd through the 25th, the State of North Carolina is planning on offering rebates on certain appliances.

As part of the federal stimulus program, the NC State Energy Office wants to give shoppers a 15% rebate on refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers and dishwashers. The US Department of Energy must approve the plan.

Shoppers will receive the rebate at the cash register. They will not have to fill out and submit any forms to receive the discount.

The actual rebate amount will be determined by the price of the appliance. It is estimated that most rebates will be between $50 and $250. The only requirement is that the appliance has an Energy Star rating.

North Carolina has $8.5 million of federal stimulus money designated to promote green appliances. A second phase will take place in June if there is any money left after the April rebate. The second phase will be for central air conditioners, water heaters, heat pumps and gas furnaces.

This proposed appliance rebate is separate from the appliance sales tax holiday in November in North Carolina. The appliance rebate will save money for North Carolina residents at the cash register and on their power bill.
