Derek Jeter is just one of the big hitters on the New York Yankees roster. When it comes to hitting home runs in the postseason, Jeter is the guy. In fact in Monday's ALCS Yankees Angels game 3, Jeter hit his 20th postseason home run at his first at bat for the game.
In the first inning of Monday's game 3, Jeter hit a home run over the left field wall off of Angels' pitcher Jered Weaver. The fact that this gave the Yankees an early lead in the game and was Jeter's 20th postseason home run; would be special for any ballplayer.
For Jeter, it moves him one more closer to catching another Yankee player in the record books. During Saturday night's marathon Yankees Angels game 2, Jeter recorded his 19th postseason home run.
Saturday night's home run moved Jeter solely into third place in the all-time postseason home runs. Jeter moved ahead of two baseball legends Mickey Mantle and Reggie Jackson (each have 18) with his home run in game 2.
Now Jeter is right behind another Yankee great Bernie Williams who is second behind the all-time leader Manny Ramirez. Williams played outfield for the Yankees and hit 22 postseason homers in his career.
His first inning home run during the Yankees Angels game 3 put Jeter needing just two more to tie Williams for second. Jeter will have to hit a few more to take over Ramirez for the all-time postseason home run leader spot. Ramirez has 29. It is possible though. Game 3 is currently in extra innings and Jeter has many more postseasons games to play.
