Dodgers Phillies Game 5 D-Day For Dodgers

Wednesday night's Dodgers Phillies game 5 is d-day for the Los Angeles Dodgers. If they want to have the chance to play in this year's World Series, then the Dodgers must win. Otherwise, the Phillies will be returning to defend their World Series title.

After Monday night's come from behind win by the Phillies in game 4, the Phillies now lead the best of seven series 3 games to 1. The Phillies only need one more win to put them into position to be the first National League team to repeat as World Series Champions since 1976.

Vicente Padilla will be the starting pitcher for the Dodgers. Padilla started in game 2 and the Dodgers are hoping he will bring the same results. The Dodgers won that game.

Padilla came to the Dodgers after being released by Texas in August. Texas released him for being a disruptive teammate.

The Phillies will start Cole Hamels as their pitcher. Hamels will be looking to take down the Dodgers quickly and not let them maintain any hope of moving the series back to LA.

The Dodgers will have to go against history to make it to win the National League title. Only two other National League teams have come back from a 3-1 deficit in the championship series. Those were the 1996 Braves and the 2003 Marlins.

If the Dodgers manage to win the Dodgers Phillies game 5, then game 6 will be played on Friday in LA. If the Phillies win, they will look to defend their World Series title starting next Wednesday against the winner of the Yankees Angels series.
