Yankees Angels game 4 was played at the Angels Stadium in front of a large crowd of Angels fans. They were hoping that their Angels could pull out another win as they had done in game 3 on Monday night. It was not to be.
The Yankees went into the game with a 2-1 lead in the American League Championship Series. They started their ace pitcher, CC Sabathia with only three days of rest.
That was plenty of rest for Sabathia. He pitched a marvelous game. During his eight innings of pitching during game 4, Sabathia allowed only one Angels' run. He allowed only five hits total and recorded five strikeouts.
Sabathia has allowed only three earned runs in less than 23 innings of the postseason. He has an amazing 1.19 postseason ERA and has accounted for half of the Yankees wins in the playoffs.
To support Sabathia's efforts, the Yankees offense managed to score 10 runs for the win. The first three innings was completely scoreless. In the fourth inning, the Yankees put three runs on the board.
Alex Rodriguez continues to have a great postseason at bat. So far in the postseason, A-Rod has had hits in nine straight games and RBIs in eight straight. During the fifth inning, A-Rod hit a home run to pull him within one away from a single postseason record of six for the Yankees.
A-Rod's home run made the score 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Angels got on the board with their only score for the game in the bottom of the fifth. A solo home run by Kendry Morales made the score 5-1.
The Yankees added two more runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth inning to make the final score be 10-1. The win moves them ahead in the series three games to one.
The game was not without any controversy. Umpire Tim McClelland missed two calls. During the fourth inning, McClelland thought Yankees' Nick Swisher had left the bag early and called him out. In the fifth inning, he missed a tag on Yankees' Robinson Cano and called him safe.
The Yankees will try to wrap up the ALCS pennant Thursday night in game 5. Unless the Angels can come up with a win, it appears that the Yankees will be heading to another World Series. It also looks like they will be playing the Phillies who have a 3-1 game lead over the Dodgers heading into their game 5 on Wednesday night.
