Phillies Dodgers Game 5 Phillies Win

Going into Wednesday night's Phillies Dodgers game 5, the Dodgers knew they had to win. The Phillies knew a win for them meant they were going back to the World Series. In the dominating fashion that the Phillies have done all of the NLCS, they beat the Dodgers 10-4.

The Dodgers moved their hottest pitcher up in the rotation to pitch the must win game 5. Vicente Padilla had joined the Dodgers back in August and had not lost a game pitching for them. That was till game 5 against the Phillies.

A home run by Andre Ethier started the game off on the right foot for the Dodgers. But before the first inning was over, the Phillies had already taken control of the game. Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead.

The scoring continued in the second inning. James Loney gave the Dodgers another solo home run to tighten up the score. Phillies' Pedro Feliz countered with his own home run to bring the score to 4-2.

It appeared that things had calmed down some in the third inning. Neither team was able to score. In the fourth inning though, the scoring continued. At least for the Phillies.

The Phillies stretched out their lead 6-2 in the fourth. One of the runs came as the result of two Phillies hitters being hit by pitches back to back. Jimmy Rollins was hit by a pitch from Ramon Troncoso to load the bases. Then Shane Victorino was hit by a pitch from George Sherrill to bring in a run. Not a good night for the Dodgers' pitchers.

In the fifth inning, the Dodgers tried to come back. They were only able to score one run off of a solo home run from Orlando Hudson. The score 6-3.

The Phillies added to their score again in the sixth inning. A two-run homer by Victorino made the score 8-3. Werth added his second home run of the game in the seventh inning to stretch the lead out to 9-3.

Dodgers only had six outs left if they want to rally back heading into the eighth inning. And the Dodgers did give it a good rally. They fell short though. They were only able to score one run and left the bases loaded.

The Phillies added a run off of a wild pitch in the eighth to bring the final score to 10-4. With the win in the Phillies Dodgers game 5, the Phillies will return to defend their World Series Championship. If the Yankees win on Thursday, then it will be a Yankee Phillies World Series.
