During Saturday's ESPN's broadcast of the Ohio St vs Minnesota game, football analyst Bob Griese made a big mistake. Griese made a comment regarding Juan Pablo Montoya that was simply uncalled for.
Montoya is a NASCAR Sprint Cup driver. He is currently one of the twelve drivers in the Chase for the championship.
The Sprint Cup race is at Martinsville this Sunday and during the Ohio St vs Minnesota game, ESPN ran a promo for the race. The promo featured the top five drivers in the Sprint Cup points.
Griese's fellow commentator, Chris Spielman asked, "Where's Montoya?" Griese replied, "Out eating a taco."
Griese apologized before the end of the Ohio St vs Minnesota game. He apologized again during the Florida vs Mississippi St game.
ESPN released a statement that basically said that they have talked with Griese. He knows he should not have made the comment and that all wish it had not been made. First thought - duh! Second thought - was that just a slap on the hand?
Going into last week's Charlotte's race, Montoya was third in points. A mishap on a restart caused him to slip to sixth. You can read more about the mishap here.
Bob Griese Juan Pablo Montoya comment will go down as one of those major slip ups on TV. Griese may still have some "sorry" to say as well.
