In week seven, the Raiders vs Jets was a shut out. The New York Jets beat the Oakland Raiders 38-0.
The Jets have struggled lately. On Sunday though they managed to do something they have not been able to do since 2004; win on the west coast.
With the Raiders vs Jets shut out victory, the Jets was also able to tally another over 300 yards rushing game. They rushed 316 yards this week. Last week against Buffalo, the Jets ran for 318 yards. No NFL team has rushed back-to-back 300 yard games since 1975.
The rushing yards against the Raiders were not by the normal pair of Jet runners. Leon Washington only had one carry for six yards in the game. On that play he broke his right fibula and will miss the remainder of the season. Read here for more information on Washington's injury.
The Jets rushing yardage was from the legs of Thomas Jones who had another big running game and rookie Shonn Greene. The rookie Greene came in after Washington was injured and performed beautifully. Greene scored his first two touchdowns of his NFL career and rushed for 144 yards.
Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez did his part in the Jets win. He did not turn the ball over.
The Jets defense dominated the Raiders offense. Within the first quarter they had forced three turnovers. Raiders starting quarterback, JaMarcus Russell committed all three turnovers and was benched after the first quarter. The Jets defense later forced another turnover later in the game for a total of four.
The Raiders vs Jets 38-0 shutout by the Jets was their shutout victory ever. The Jets hope to continue running the ball against Miami next week.
