New Diet Drugs Could Help Improve Other Health Issues

There is a major race between three drug companies to release their new weight loss drug to the market. All three new potential diet drugs are showing good results in tests. It is being reported now that these diet drugs are also showing promise to help with other health issues such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood-sugar control.

The companies in the race are Vivus, Orexigen and Arena. You can read more about the results from test so far for these drugs on weight loss here.

None of these drugs have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for sale as of yet. They are all still in testing and studies phases. It would be some time in the next year that they should receive approval if the test show no concerns.

During these studies, researchers are finding that these drugs do more than just help patients with weight loss. They are seeing that they also help improve other health issues.

In a lot of cases, high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood-sugar control are all intermingled with obesity and being overweight. For years doctors have advise patients to lose weight to help improve these and other health issues.

The studies for the new diet drugs are supporting that advice. Treating the obesity or being overweight may actually be more effective health-wise and more cost-effective than just treating the individual chronic conditions. These new diet drugs may one day do just that.
