Yankees Angels Game 6 Yankees Win The Pennant

Yankees Angels game 6 can simply be titled "Yankees win the pennant." With the 5-2 win, the New York Yankees win the American League Championship Series (ALCS) title over the Los Angeles Angels.

Rain was the only thing that could slow down the Yankees from another trip to the World Series. Game 6 was postponed on Saturday night due to rain. When the Yankees and Angels took the field for game 6 on Sunday night, the stars were all lined up for another Yankees win.

The Angels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Jeff Mathis doubled to start the inning off. Mathis later scored off of a Bobby Abreu single. The Angels had some hope.

In the fourth inning, the Yankees crushed those hopes. Robinson Cano walked to get on first base. Nick Swisher than hit a single putting runners on first and second. A sacrificed bunt moved the runners into scoring positions; second and third base. Derek Jeter walked to load the bases.

Johnny Damon singled bringing in Cano and Swisher for two runs. Mark Teixeira singled to load the bases for the second time in the fourth inning. Alex Rodriguez walked allowing Jeter to score. The Angels then were able to pull off a double play to get them out of the inning trailing 3-1.

Chone Figgins singled in the top of the eighth inning for the Angels. Figgins scored the Angels last run of the game off of a Vladimir Guerrero single to tighten the score 3-2.

The Yankees quickly answered with two more runs when they stepped up to bat. Cano walked again to get on base. A throwing error on a sacrificed bunt by Swisher allowed Cano to go to second and Swisher to be safe at first. The Angels committed another throwing error on another Yankee sacrificed bunt allowing Cano to score. Brett Gardner came in for the final run off of a sacrifice fly to center field.

With the win, Yankees' winning pitcher Andy Pettitte moved ahead of John Smoltz for the record of most career postseason wins. Pettitte now has 16 and Smoltz has 15.

Yankees' superstar pitcher, CC Sabathia was named the Most Valuable Player for the ALCS. Sabathia was the winning pitcher during game with only three days of rest. Read here for more on that game.

The Yankees Angels game 6 win means the Yankees are now heading into their 40th World Series. They lead all other major league teams for all sports with the most appearances in the championship round. The closest baseball team is the Dodgers who are tied for fifth with 21 appearances. The Yankees face off with the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night for the first game of the World Series.
