Howard's UConn football teammates flew down to Miami on Sunday to be able to bid their final farewell to their beloved teammate. They arrived at Howard's funeral each carrying a single white rose.
The funeral was the last of the tributes to honor a young man that many have spoken so fondly of. Howard's high school teammate Chris Chancellor was just one of many who paid tribute to him during this weekend.
Chancellor plays football for the Clemson Tigers. He obtained permission to wear a #6 jersey, Howard's number, for Clemson's game against the University of Miami on Saturday. Clemson won 40-37 in overtime.
Chancellor did not travel back to Clemson with his teammates. He stayed in Miami to pay his respects to another teammate of his, Howard.
UConn played their first game without Howard against West Virginia on Saturday. They held a tribute for him prior to the start of the game.
Before the kickoff, two of Howard's teammates carried his helmet and jersey out on the field. The West Virginia players joined the UConn players in wearing a number 6 sticker on their helmets. A moment of silence was also observed. UConn lost a tight hard game 28-24.
On Sunday, family, friends and teammates gathered at Richardson Funeral Home in Miami for the viewing. The viewing lasted eight hours.
The room was filled with flowers and photographs. Two large ones were of Howard. One was signed by the entire Clemson football team. The other by the entire Miami team. Howard's football coach in high school, Corey Bell is now the director of football at Miami.
A week later and no one has been charged for his stabbing. There are still many questions to have answered surrounding Howard's death. It was clear this weekend by the tributes that started on Saturday and went through Jasper Howard funeral on Monday, that he will be missed.
