Going into Monday night's Eagles vs Redskins game, it was expected that the Eagles would win. But that was no guarantee after their performance the week before in the loss to the Raiders.
Except for a few big plays, the Eagles offense continued to be mediocre during the Monday night Eagles vs Redskins game. The Eagles defense stepped up to the plate and performed.
The Redskins continued to show just how bad the whole organization is performing during the Monday night game. During the week, play-calling duties had been taken away from embattled head coach Jim Zorn. The Redskin offense fared no better with Sherm Lewis calling the plays.
It did not take the Eagle offense long to strike. DeSean Jackson ran for a 67 yard touchdown on only the fourth Eagle play. Jackson would later add a 57 yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.
Jackson only touched the ball three times on offense. His touchdowns in the Eagles vs Redskins game made Jackson the third player in NFL history to have five touchdowns of 50+ yards through six games.
Jackson touchdown catch also gave Eagles' quarterback, Donvan McNabb his 200th touchdown pass for his career. McNabb also surpassed 30,000 yards passing or his career during Monday night's game.
With only one minute left in the first quarter, the Eagles defense scored a touchdown. Quintin Mikell tipped a Jason Campbell pass and newcomer Will Witherspoon caught it and ran it in for a 9 yard touchdown.
Witherspoon had just joined the Eagles during the week leading up to the Eagles vs Redskins game on a trade. He had an impressive night. Witherspoon also forced a fumble in addition to his touchdown.
Eagles' kicker David Akers added two field goals in the first half to the Eagles lead. Both field goals were over 40 yards.
Campbell had another miserable night for the Redskins. There was no protection from the offensive line. The Eagles defense took advantage of it. They sacked Campbell six times.
The Redskins turned the ball over four times. The Eagles produced points on three of those four turnovers.
The Redskins' rushing game never got started. Clinton Portis only manage to run for 43 total yards for the game.
The scare of the game occurred in the first quarter. Eagles' Brian Westbrook took a knee to the helmet. Westbrook was out on the field for several minutes. He sustained a concussion and was able to join the team on the sideline during the second half.
After the Eagles vs Redskins game, the Redskins drop to a 25 record. The Eagles improve to a 4-2 record for the season.
