The New York Yankees fans may be secretly happy the Philadelphia Phillies won the Yankees vs Phillies game 5 Monday night 8-6. The Phillies' win in game 5 meant the World Series 2009 game 6 will be played in the new Yankees Stadium.

This also means with a Yankees win in either Wednesday nights World Series 2009 game 6 or Thursday's game 7 if needed, then the Yankees fans will get to watch their team win their 27th World Series Championship in their home stadium. The Yankees lead the Yankees vs Phillies series 3 games to 2 heading into game 6.

When the 2009 World Series started just a week ago in Yankee stadium, it did not look like the Yankees would be leading the series at this point. During game 1, the Phillies handed the Yankees their only postseason loss at home this year.

After game 1, the Yankees won three straight games to take a 3-1 lead. With a win in the Monday night's game 5, the Yankees could have won the 2009 World Series in Philadelphia. The Phillies fought back and forced a game 6 bringing the series back to New York.

The World Series 2009 game 6 will be a special treat for not only the Yankees fans, but every baseball fan regardless of whom the winner is. In recent years, most World Series have not made it to a game 6. In fact, it has been six years since the last time there was a World Series game 6.

Both teams will be relying on veteran pitchers in the World Series 2009 game 6. The Yankees will start Andy Pettitte and the Phillies will start Pedro Martinez. Pettitte will be pitching on short rest.

The Phillies have been led by the hitting of second baseman, Chase Utley. They need Utley to have another good night at bat if the Phillies hope to win. So far in the 2009 World Series, Utley has hit five home runs out of his six hits.

The Phillies are trying to repeat as the World Series Champions. To do so they will need to force a World Series game 7.

If the Phillies do win the World Series 2009 game 6, then CC Sabathia is scheduled to pitch for the Yankees in game 7. Cole Hamels is scheduled to pitch for the Phillies. It would not be surprising though if there is a game 7 to see Cliff Lee, the winning pitcher from both Phillies 2009 World Series wins, on the mound for the Phillies.
