
Production has been halted for the Ford Taurus due to a labor strike. A strike involving workers in India has forced Ford to close down a plant in the US for one week.
The Chicago Assembly Plant where the Ford Taurus and the Lincoln MKS sedans are manufactured is halting production for one week due to parts shortage as a result of the labor strike in India. Rico Auto Industries, Ltd provides a transmission component for the Ford Taurus.
Around 2,000 workers at the Rico plant in India went on strike September 21st. The strike was over better wages. This is becoming an issue for the growing auto industry in India.
On October 18th, the strike turned violent and one person died. An agreement has been reached ending the strike and production has resumed.
Ford Motor Company has stated that their dealers have a 40 day supply of the Taurus. The 2010 Taurus is a key launch for Ford this year.
Earlier in the strike, Ford also had to halt production at their Oakville, Ontario plant due to parts shortage. The Ford Edge, Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT is manufactured at that plant.
General Motors has also been affected by the labor strike in India. GM had to halt production at their Delta Township, Michigan plant.
GM manufactures SUVs at that plant. Parts shortage from the Rico labor strike has the plant returning back to only one shift when production resumes.
A labor issue at an auto parts supplier on the other side of the world has caused production to halt in US factories for the Ford Taurus and other vehicles. The labor strike at India's Rico plant has reached the workers at Ford and GMs US plants.
