AJ Jewell's Body To Be Exhumed For Second Autopsy

The body of Ashley "AJ" Jewell will be exhumed for a second autopsy. The Fulton DA has agreed to the exhumation due to the findings of the first autopsy.

Jewell died after a fight with Frederick Richardson outside of the Atlanta club "Body Tap" on October 2nd. Read more about the fight here.

It was originally believed that Jewell died as the result of head injuries from the fight. Preliminary autopsy findings noted that Jewell had a rare sickle cell trait.

It was also noted in the preliminary findings that Jewell's sickle cell was a contributing factor to his death. Richardson was released pending the final autopsy findings. Read more here.

The first autopsy report is now in. Listed on the report as the primary cause of death is Jewell's rare sickle cell trait. Jewell's death was still ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

Jewell's family does not agree with the findings from the first autopsy. They have requested another autopsy.

Fulton District Attorney Paul Howard has agreed to be obtain a court order for Jewell's body to be exhumed. His reasoning is the findings of the first autopsy is so unusual.

The second autopsy is to confirm or not that his rare sickle cell trait did kill Jewell. The findings of the second autopsy will determine if Richardson will face charges.

Once the court order is obtained, AJ Jewell's body will be exhumed. A second autopsy will determine if a rare sickle cell trait was what killed him.
