Federer ties Jimmy Connors with five ATP World Tour Championships. Only Pete Sampras has more with six.
Going into the 2009 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, Federer was in a tight battle for the Tour Championship with rival Rafael Nadal. Nadal lost all three of his matches during the tournament.
Federer failed to reach the final match of the ATP Finals, but he did seal the number one ranking for the year. The ATP World Tour Championship was clinched with Federer's victory over Andy Murray in the round robin stage of the tournament.
Nadal had taken away the number one ranking from Federer in August, 2008. Federer had held the number one ranking since 2004 for a record 237 weeks.
Nadal held on to be crowned the 2008 ATP World Tour Champion. Federer took the number one ranking back from Nadal on July 6, 2009.
With his win at Wimbledon, Federer regained the number one ranking. This was his 15th Grand Slam title.
Federer will add the 2009 ATP World Tour Champion trophy with the four other ones he has in his trophy case. Federer also won the title in 2004-2007.
