Texas A&M Stuns LSU In NCAA Volleyball Championship

At the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, the Texas A&M Aggies defeated the number 15 seed LSU Tigers. The Aggies won the NCAA Volleyball Championship second round match three sets to two.

The match was hard fought with the set scores of 18-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 15-10. Texas A&M and LSU tied 60 times during the match and exchanged the lead 29 times.

LSU actually out hit and out blocked Texas A&M. The Tigers were lead by SEC Player of the Year, Brittnee Cooper. She had 28 kills, no errors in 40 attempts and ended her collegiate career with an outstanding hitting percentage of .700 for the match.

Sarah Ammerman and Jennifer Banse lead Texas A&M. Ammerman and 26 kills and a hitting percentage of .396. Banse contributed 20 kills and a .348 hitting percentage towards the victory.

With the victory over LSU, Texas A&M advances to the NCAA Volleyball Championship third round. The Aggies will play a team they know very well; their rival Texas Longhorns.

Seeded number two, Texas defeated TCU in three straight sets to advance to the NCAA Volleyball Championship sweet 16. So far in this year's tournament, the Longhorns have not lost a set.

Texas (26-1) and Texas A&M (20-10) played each other twice during the 2009 season. The Longhorns won both matches.

Texas A&M will have to build on their stunning victory over LSU when they face Texas on Friday. The two Texas teams will play their third round NCAA Volleyball Championship match at the Omaha Regional semifinals in the Qwest Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
