Pentax K-7 Camera Wins Readers Choice Award

The Pentax K-7 digital camera won the Adorama Learning Center Reader's Choice Camera of 2009. The honor was determined by two weeks of online voting at the beginning of November.

In the Reader's Choice contest, the voters could vote for the digital camera they felt was the most important in 2009. The Pentax K-7 received the most votes of the eight cameras on the list.

Only digital cameras that were introduced in 2009 were eligible. This left out many of the most popular cameras on the market. Such as the Canon 5D Mark II or the Nikon D700, since they were introduced prior to 2009.

There were 2,746 votes cast during the voting period. The Pentax K-7 received an overwhelming 55% of them.

Pentax K-7 digital camera received 1,524 votes. The Leica M9 came in second place with 447 votes.

The Olympus E-P1 came in third with 169 votes. The Canon EOS 7D digital camera took fourth place with 167.

The new Nikon D3S received 138 votes; even though it did not start shipping till after the voting ended. Rounding out the rest of the field was the Casio Exilim EX-FS10 with 136, the Panasonic GH-1 with 110, and the Sony A850 with 55 votes.

The Pentax K-7 is a small, water-resistant DSLR camera. It is the first digital SLR camera to have internal High Dynamic Range.

Some of the features of the Pentax K-7 digital camera are: fast imaging processing, low noise, built-in level to help keep horizons straight and internal lens correction software. All of the K-mount lens that Pentax has made are also compatible with the K-7.

These features along with the camera's size, weight and low price were noted by those voting for the Pentax K-7 as the reasons why they felt it was the most important camera. The K-7 digital camera sells for around $1,200.

Pentax has a strong, loyal group of users on the Pentax forum and other social media sites. Some people have complained that a Pentax rep actually used such sites to get people to vote for the K-7.

Adorama has stated that all manufacturers were notified of the contest and had a fair chance to use social media sites to get their users to vote. It may just appear that Pentax out performed their competitors on their use of social media.

Regardless, the Pentax K-7 offers some great features in a relatively small and inexpensive digital camera. The voters spoke soundly on that with the K-7 taking 55% of the votes and the Adorama Learning Center Reader's Choice Camera of 2009.
