Pentax has announced a new addition to their weather-resistant lens line for their digital cameras. The smc Pentax D FA Macro 100mm F2.8 WR lens will start shipping in January 2010.
Designed to be used with the Pentax digital camera line, the exterior of the new Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens is made with Pentax-original weather-resistant construction. The WR stands for weather-resistant.
Exclusive to the Pentax D FA series lenses, the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens has a specially designed exterior design and finish along with a high-grade aluminum barrel. This design protects the lens barrel from moisture, which is one of the biggest danger to any photography equipment.
Pentax has a complete line of weather-resistant digital cameras. These are the K-7, K20D, K200D and K10D. The K-7 was just named the Adorama Learning Center Reader's Choice Camera of 2009. With any of the Pentax weather-resistant cameras, the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens is able to preform in inclement weather such as rain or in environments where water could be splashed or sprayed.
The new lens has a working distance of just over five inches allowing for close-up photography of flowers and insects equal to 1:1 life-size magnification. This macro feature and the weather-resistant makes the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR a perfect outdoor photography lens.
The new lens is also completely compatible with macro adapters. This includes the Pentax AF160FC dedicated Auto Macro Ring Flash.
The Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens also has an improved focus ring and a completely round diaphragm blade. This allows for a more natural and beautiful bokeh (out of focus area usually in the background) effect at the wide apertures. It is also designed to help minimize the streaking effect of point light sources.
When mounted on a Pentax digital SLR camera, the Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens has a focal length equal to an 153mm lens on a 35mm or full-frame camera body.
With the Pentax Quick-Shift Focus System, the user can switch to manual-focus on The Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR once the auto-focus has captured the subject. This allows for fine tuning of the focus which is critical on close-up images.
The Pentax D FA Macro 100mm 2.8 WR lens is a great addition to the Pentax line. Along with their weather-resistant line of digital cameras, this new lens gives the outdoor photographer a new tool to use in inclement weather.
