
Actors Theatre of Louisville has commissioned graphic designer and illustrator Michael Glenwood of Washington D.C. to create this year's official poster art commemorating the 31st Humana Festival of New American Plays (February 25 - April 7). It will appear on the cover of festival playbills and will be issued as a 22 by 34 inches limited-edition four-color art poster.
The Humana Festival, made possible by a grant from The Humana Foundation, is an internationally acclaimed annual showcase of stage premieres.
Glenwood has been in the graphic design and illustration business for more than 20 years, as well as being involved in printmaking and handmade books.
As a freelance illustrator, Glenwood has worked with a diverse and impressive list of clients, creating posters for opera companies and symphonies and book covers for Random House and Harper Collins. He has created artwork for magazines, newspapers and corporations, including Time and Newsweek, United Airlines and Verizon, The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News and The San Francisco Chronicle and hundreds of other clients.
His illustrations have received peer recognition from the those in the industry, such as the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, Print magazine and others. His work has been exhibited in a number of galleries, including the Museum of American Illustration in New York.
This is the 26th year that Actors has commissioned a work to mark the internationally celebrated festival with a distinct graphic image. These designs have been by artists from Louisville, New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix and Poland. Several past festival poster illustrators have been selected for publication in Communication Arts Illustration Annual. The 1993 poster design by Poland-based artist Eidrigevicius Stasys won a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators.
