Syniverse provides wireless voice and data services to telephone companies. CNBC has confirmed that the deal will happen between the two companies and that buying the messaging system from Verisign would allow Syniverse to expand their capability to wirelessly send text and picture messages.
Buying the messaging system from Verisign will also allow Syniverse to employ an additional 300 employees. Verisign, who is a network infrastructure service controls 60 percent of mobile messaging traffic in the United States and has allowed for 932 million messages per day to be delivered, according to Jason Ankeny of Fierce Mobile Content.
