5 plays. 5 weeks. What Do You Want To See?

Alberta Theatre Projects is gearing up to celebrate the 21st Annual Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays from January 31 -March 4, 2007.

The Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian plays has evolved into a platform for contemporary Canadian playwrights that makes five cold weeks of winter fly by. The 2007 festival features three plays in the Martha Cohen Theatre and two productions on the BD&P Stage 2, at the Big Secret Theatre, an expansion made possible in 2006 through the support of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. Combined with fascinating insight into the play development process, the 2007 festival includes the annual 24-hour playwriting competition, Lawson Lundell Celebrity Hors D'Oeuvres, field trips, engaging conversations with Canadian playwrights, caffeine kicks with theatre artists, breakfast with festival goers and a whirlwind mini-musical production in Calgary's most intimate outdoor theatre space.

Alberta Theatre Projects indulges festival patrons with a sample of new Canadian works and nation wide networking opportunities with theatre enthusiasts. Since the first Festival in 1987, ATP has premiered 81 new Canadian plays. Of the plays, 57 have gone on to have productions across Canada, 18 of those have been produced internationally and four were finalists for the Governor General Award.

This year's Enbridge playRites Festival's playbill includes the world premieres of Age of Arousal by Linda Griffiths, The December Man (L'homme de décembre) by Colleen Murphy and The Knowing Bird by Ron Chambers, all on the Martha Cohen Stage. Visitors can take in new collaborative works on the BD&P Stage 2 including Why Freud Fainted by David Rhymer with Vanessa Porteous and This is Cancer! created by Bruce Horak and Rebecca Northan.

Alberta Theatre Projects is extremely proud of the success of the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian plays and anticipates the 21st anniversary of the Festival to draw in a large Canadian audience to share in the experience of play development.

Tickets range from $18.50-$42.00, BD&P Stage 2 Tickets are $24.00. playRites Pass (4 tickets to any production) $90.00. Group discounts available. -- www.atplive.com
