An illusionist with a dramatic sense of theater, the New Jersey native is famous for walking through the Great Wall of China, levitating across the Grand Canyon, and making audience volunteers disappear and reappear in a variety of unusual settings. Known as the greatest illusionist of this time, Copperfield began his legacy at age 12, when he was the youngest person to ever be admitted to the American Society of Magicians. By the age of 16, he was teaching magic at New York University.
Witty, engaging and supremely entertaining, Copperfield's approach to his esteemed art has transformed the way the world looks at magic. His celebrated feats and sense of theater have won The Magic of David Copperfield show dozens of Emmy Awards and two Entertainer of the Year honors. His tours have set box-office records across Europe, Asia and North and South America. He has been honored with a wax likeness at Madame Toussaud's in London and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was knighted by the French government, and has also appeared on postage stamps in four nations.
He also founded Project Magic, an organization to rehabilitate the disabled. Recognized by the American Association of Occupational Therapists, the program, which enhances the self-esteem of patients, has been implemented in over 1,000 hospitals worldwide. Forbes Magazine reported that Copperfield earned $57 million in 2003, making him the tenth highest-paid celebrity in the world.
