Mum's the Word - the smash hit, tell-it-like-it-is comedy about the trials and tribulations of having children, comes to the Grand Theatre, Blackpool this February 12th.
Humorous, emotional, ecstatic and hysterical! Mum's the Word is a chorus line of confessional anecdotes and vignettes combined to create the mother of all comedies.
Starring Blackpool's very own Bernie Nolan - from the famous singing family The Nolans and viewers' favourite Sergeant Sheelagh Murphy in The Bill; recording artist Michelle Gayle - best known as Hattie in EastEnders; Kim Hartman - star of TV comedy classic 'Allo, 'Allo; Rebecca Wheatley - Britain's best loved receptionist in Casualty and West End actress Daniele Coombe fresh from Acorn Antiques the Musical; Mum's the Word hangs the dirty-nappy laundry of maternity out to dry and brings both the laughter and tears of motherhood to the stage.
Without the rose-coloured lens treatment, Mum's the Word is an hilarious, intimate look at motherhood. Six mums tell stories you have not heard before - stories too embarrassing, too personal to tell even their closest friends, but based on experiences all mothers share. It is group therapy like never before.
Mum's the Word was written in Vancouver in Spring 1993 by a group of six women who had once been exciting, glamorous, professional actors and were now exhausted, bedraggled amateur mothers with ten children under six between them.
With a slot in a Vancouver Festival called Women In View they decided to write a show about motherhood and met regularly on Saturday mornings to write. They talked, laughed and moaned. Suddenly the festival was three weeks away and they had nothing on paper but felt enormously better about their children, their skills as mothers and their lives in general!
Luckily, in the ancient tradition of oral history, they remembered each other's stories and Mum's the Word was born.
This marvellous cast will playing Blackpool's Grand Theatre from Monday 12 to Saturday 17 February 2007, with performances on Monday at 8pm, Tuesday to Thursday at 7.30pm and Friday and Saturday at 6pm and 8.30pm.
Please note: The performance on Friday at 6pm will be BSL Sign Interpreted by Jackie Maxim and the performance on Saturday at 6pm will be Audio Described by Pat Hayes, Irene Ryan and Kath Wilsdon.
