
The Science Museum has a packed events programme for families to enjoy this February half-term. The Museum has a stacked roster of shows"Å¡ a jaw-dropping new 3D IMAX film and a glimpse at the future of space tourism to make for a great day out.
Free science shows for kids
Bestselling author Philip Ardagh will be performing experiments live on stage as part of his Wow! Get Moving! show on Tuesday 13 February. Philip"Å¡ author of WOW! Inventions that Changed the World will explain the science of getting from A to B in this free show.
Amazing science facts and daring demos will be performed as part of the Super Science Museum Game Show"Å¡ which takes place three times a day on weekends during half-term.
Kids will also be able to make their own toys in a workshop running from Monday to Friday of half-term week. The Toy Stop takes inspiration from the Playing with Science exhibition.
Playing with Science - exhibition extended
Visitors to the Science Museum during half-term will be able to bring their favourite toys along to add to the Playing with Science exhibition"Å¡ which has been extended until Sunday 25 March 2007.
Visitors will be asked to write their own exhibit label"Å¡ explaining what their toy means to them and why it should be on display at the Science Museum.
The eclectic exhibition features unseen toys"Å¡ games and curiosities from the Science Museum's own collections"Å¡ as well as treasures brought in by the public. Highlights include 1930s chemistry sets"Å¡ Victorian parlour tricks a 250 year old magnetic game belonging to King George III and state-of-the-art animatronic toys.
Visitors are invited to bring in their favourite toys during half term (Monday 12 - Friday 16 February) between 11am and 4pm.
Coming soon! Virgin Galactic Spaceship 2
To celebrate the rapid advances in space travel"Å¡ the Science Museum is showcasing a mock-up cabin of the world's first ever vehicle for space tourism - the Virgin Galactic Spaceship 2. It has never been seen before in the UK and will be on display at the Science Museum from Tuesday 13 February to Friday 2 March. The model"Å¡ designed by British design firm Seymour Powell"Å¡ shows a unique vehicle which combines the technology of an aeroplane with a rocket and is predicted to be able to take tourists into space from as early as 2008!
Visitors will be able to view 9m long"Å¡ 12 seater spacecraft cabin and gain an amazing insight into the experience of being one of the first non-professional astronaut travellers to embark on a leisure cruise into space.
Lions 3D
The Science Museum's giant IMAX 3D cinema screen will allow viewers to get up close to the kings of the jungle in Lions 3D: Roar of the Kalahari. It tells the story of a gripping battle between an aging alpha male lion and his young rival in the African desert from Saturday 10 February.
Finally"Å¡ the Science Museum will be bringing history to life with drama characters playing such luminaries as scientist Isaac Newton"Å¡ engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel"Å¡ astronaut Gene Cernan and pilot and daredevil Amy Johnson.
