John Pontolillo, 20 a student at John Hopkins University killed a man who broke into his off campus residence Tuesday with a Samurai sword. A neighbor called police about a suspicious person when university security and an off-duty officer arrived around 1:20 a.m.
They heard screams and shouting from another house. They found the suspected burglar unarmed suffering from a laceration to his upper body and his hand nearly severed.
The man was struck once by the sword and pronounced dead on the scene.
Pontolillo shared the residence with three other undergraduate students who were questioned by police and released on Tuesday. Pontolillo was held for further questioning.
