Figures show Maryland is the richest state in the U.S.

According to U.S. census data released on Tuesday Maryland remains the richest state in the nation despite decreasing home values in the slumped real estate market last year.

Median income was $1,500 more in 2008 than it was in 2007. Figures for 2008 was $70,545 which was higher than New Jersey's $70,378 median income.
