Family Arts Day will give guests the chance to join in the fun with a variety of activities such as free classes in jazz, ballet, salsa, Pilates, martial arts, Japanese Kendo and Spanish flamenco. Interactive performances by Dark Lotus Combat Arts, Kendo, and ADI’s Youth Ensemble will get guests off their feet and onto the stage. In addition, attendees will be entertained with free performances by award-winning DC dance company Edgeworks Dance Theatre and Flamenco dancers.
Children of all ages can enjoy face painting, and arts and crafts such as a beading demonstration and a “create your own jewelry” activity. In addition, kids can touch and feel real ballet costumes, headpieces, props and shoes at the ballet "petting zoo." There will also be live music, food and beverages.
This year’s annual festival will be complete with Family Fun, Health and Fitness Baskets as prize giveaways. The baskets include coupons and gift certificates from local businesses and gifts from American Dance Institute of free class certificates for all ages.
“The goal of American Dance Institute is to bring the community together through the arts,” said Pamela Bjerknes, artistic director of American Dance Institute. “Family Arts Day is a chance for everyone to express their creativity, try new forms of dance and art, all while spending a fun afternoon with friends, family and the community. This is a chance for people to see the variety of community art activities that are available at American Dance Institute and in the DC area.”
The free Family Arts Day festivities will take place at American Dance Institute, located at 1570 East Jefferson Street in Rockville, MD, on Sunday, September 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, please call 301.984.3003 or visit www.americandance.org.
