“Since I won’t be able to return to Thailand this year to celebrate with my family, I decided to offer a Songkran celebration here at Asia Nine,” says restaurant owner Natalie Tantivejakul. “The upstairs private dining room is perfect for family gatherings, and we hope to see many of our friends and families celebrating there.”
Healthy options are a key component of the celebration, which often involves New Year blessings, street festivals with water fights and family reunions. Asia Nine’s Songkran meal begins with a Buddha Blessing Shrimp with Plum Sauce ($8), or a Summer Breeze Fruit Salad with Thai Chili–Lime Dressing ($12). Entrée options include North-Eastern Thai Grilled Herb Chicken, Papaya Salad, and Sticky Rice ($23), and BKK – Steamed Young Coconut-Seafood Curry ($20). Top off the meal with Custard and Black Sticky Rice ($8).
Located in Washington, DC’s popular Penn Quarter neighborhood, at 915 E Street, NW, Asia Nine serves lunch Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday Brunch from noon to 3 p.m.; dinner Sunday-Wednesday from 3 p.m. to midnight; Thursday-Saturday 3 p.m.-1 a.m. Take out and valet parking is available.
