American Dance Institute to host nationally-renowned CorbinDances

American Dance Institute is bringing home Patrick Corbin and his critically-acclaimed, New York-based dance company, CorbinDances. The company has performed nationally and on October 3rd at 8:00 p.m. and October 4th at 3:00 p.m., CorbinDances will grace the stage at ADI, in its founder’s hometown. Patrick was born and raised in Potomac, Maryland, and after years of studying and performing with the world’s most renowned companies he launched CorbinDances

The companies repertoire at American Dance Institute will consist of four critically-celebrated works including Patrick Corbin’s choreographed Romantic Conversions and Reach – a desperate and hopeful work for nine people; Adele’s Skirt – which explores the intimacy of human interaction – choreographed by award winner Nelly van Bommel; and Springtide Thereafter – evokes three aspects of a human relationship: the tension of meeting, growth of feeling and the explosion - by Joffrey and Frankfurt Ballet Principal Jodie Gates. CorbinDances’ mission is to embrace and integrate complementary and emerging artistic talents to create experiences that cultivate a fresh audience.

“I met Patrick in the 70’s when he was dancing with Joffrey Ballet through my husband, who was in the company at the time,” said Pam Bjerknes, American Dance Institute Co-Founder and Director. “We have watched his soaring career over the years and we are so pleased to present this talented director, friend and choreographer and his company on our stage.”

General admission tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students with valid ID, seniors, children, and those with a DC dance pass. To purchase tickets please call 301.984.3003 or visit www.americandance.org. American Dance Institute is located at 1570 East Jefferson Street in Rockville, Md.

Patrick Corbin has danced with ABT II, the Joffrey Ballet and later joined the Paul Taylor Dance Company in 1989. He has been featured in five PBS ‘Great Performance’ television specials as well as the Academy Award-nominated ‘Dancemaker.’ In 2001, Corbin was the recipient of the NY Performance Award (Bessie) for Sustained Achievement with the Taylor Company. In addition to creating his own choreographic works for CorbinDances, Mr. Corbin stages Taylor repertory for dance companies throughout the world and teaches at the Taylor School.

In addition, DC-area pre-professional high school and college students, training in ballet at an intermediate/advanced level, will also have an exciting and unique opportunity to learn from Patrick Corbin himself, at a master class on Sunday, October 4th at 12:00 p.m. at American Dance Institute. Cost for the master class is $20 per student.

CorbinDances held its first New York season at the Joyce SoHo in June 2006. Since then, the Company has performed at the One World Theatre in Austin, Texas, La Mama Moves in New York, the Fire Island Dance Festival 13, the Laguna Dance Festival, the Chautauqua Institute, Dance Place in Washington DC, and an unprecedented and acclaimed 2-week New York season at the Joyce SoHo in May 2008.
