Long Night Of Exile

Is it the case that the "Long Museum Night" will not take place this year? Not so at the Jewish Museum Berlin! The Museum will open its doors for the "Long Night of Exile" on 27 January 2007 when admission will be free of charge for all visitors from 6 pm to midnight.

Aside from the permanent exhibition on two millennia of German Jewish history, the special exhibition currently on show is "Home and Exile. Jewish Emigration from Germany since 1933." The exhibition with its 1500 exhibits tells of persecution and preparing for flight, of journeys to an uncertain future, and from beginning anew in a foreign world.

Homing in on the lives of individuals, it documents the first years in the new home countries: The difficulties of building a financial foundation anew, adjusting to a foreign environment, to climatic conditions, and cultural peculiarities.

For the night owls at the "Long Night of Exile," there will be tours - also free of charge - through the special exhibition on the hour from 6 to 10 pm.

Film fans also have good reason to join the night owls on 27 January: The "Long Film Night of Exile" features two film portraits, a documentary, and a feature film on the lives of Jewish refugees in Vienna, New York, and Lisbon. -- www.juedisches-museum-berlin.de
