Twitter Universe Covers Fort Hood Breaking News Story

The effectiveness of the social networking site Twitter as a breaking news information center is again being demonstrated following the shootings at Fort Hood, Texas. Due to the 140 character limit of each tweet, news can quickly be updated as more information becomes available.

The NY Times created a list http://twitter.com/nytimes/fort-hood-shootings with many of the most relevant Twitter participants. These include the @FtHoodShootings Twitter account set up by the Austin American-Statesman.

Hashtags phrases #FtHood and #FortHood are being used to designate tweets connected to the shootings. Many of these tweets have links connecting to news reports and videos emanating from throughout the country.
