History was made at U.S. Open 2009 when the women's semifinal ended on a point penalty. Serena was called for a foot fault on her second serve then verbally abuse the lineswoman who had made the call. What Serena Williams said cost her a point.

It is not known exactly what Serena Williams said, but there is a lot of speculation about what cost her a point. She received a warning earlier warning in the match for smashing a racket so the second violation of verbally abusing the lineswoman gave her an automatic point penalty.

What did Serena William say at the U.S. Open 2009? Here are some rumored versions:

"If I could, I would take . . . this ball and . . . shove it down your throat."

"I swear to God [bleep], I'm taking this ball and I'm shoving it your [bleep]."

An article in Sports Illustrated gives Serena's answer to what she said, "Well, I said something that I guess they gave me a point penalty," she said. "Unfortunately it was on match point. What did I say? You didn't hear?"

Nothing is clear as to exactly what she said, but her foot fault and angry comment gave Kim Clijsters a 6-4, 7-5 victory and cost Serena Williams the game. She did, however, return to proper behavior and graciously shook Clijsters hand, congratulating her for the win. What did Serena Willam say might be a big question, but her speedy return to positive conduct makes it not important.
