Police discovered the body of what is assumed to be that of missing Yale student Annie Le shortly after 5pm today. According to assistant police chief Peter Reichard, the remains were found inside a wall in the basement of the Amistad Medical Research Building. Annie Le was last seen on a Yale security camera entering the Amistad medical research building at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
More than 100 investigators have been searching for Le since she was reported missing on Tuesday morning. Today, which was to be Le's wedding day, investigators spent all day searching for her remains in a Hartford garbage dump. Investigators were also the testing bloody clothes found hidden in ceiling tiles in the Yale building.
"We are assuming it is her at this time, and are treating this as a homicide case," said New Haven Police Assistant Chief Peter Reichard.
The police are planning to work through the night to remove the body that is assumed to be that of Yale student Annie Le. It is still in the wall, according to a CNN report.
Yale University President Richard Levin issued a statement to the campus community. "Our hearts go out to Annie Le's family, fiancé and friends, who must suffer the additional ordeal of waiting for the body to be identified. I have met again with her family and conveyed to them the deeply felt support of the Yale community."
Le was to marry her fiance, Jonathan Widawsky, today on Long Island. Jonathan is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York. The couple started dating as freshmen at the University of Rochester and planned to travel to Greece on their honeymoon.
