Thomas DeLay is a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Sugar Land, Texas and he is also on Dancing With the Stars, Season 9. DeLay was a Republican House Majority Leader from 2003–2005, when his high profile legal problems forced him to step down. Now he is stepping out on the stage with two time Dancing with the Stars champion, Cheryl Burke.

Delay, who is dancing with a pre-stress fracture in his foot, was determined to shed his conservative image and paid close attention in his rehearsals with Cheryl Burke. Known on Dancing with the Stars as "The Hammer", Delay mentioned that his 30 years in politics was full of competition and challenge, so learning to dance competitively was no different.

"I wasn't prepared for getting in touch with my feminine side," Tom DeLay stated during his pre-show rehearsal. It took Cheryl Burke some time to get the conservative politician to swing his hips in preparation for his first dance: The Cha Cha.

On the premier night of Dancing With the Stars, Tom Delay came out on stage in a not so conservative outfit. His brown vest was accented by "wild" faux animal print, which meshed just fine with his first dance to the song "Wild Thing". A bit of a stretch for this conservative politician.

Tom DeLay didn't impress the judges with his first dance tonight on Dancing with the Stars. Carrie Ann Inaba was the kindest, giving the team of Cheryl Burke and Tom Delay a "6" and calling DeLay "surprisingly light on his feet". Judges Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli were uninspired by Tom DeLay's Cha-Cha and they both gave him a "5" rating.

A slow start for conservative politician Tom DeLay, but there is more dancing to come. Dancing with the Stars is a three night premier event this week with the first two stars going home on Wednesday. Time will tell if Tom Delay can continue to dance with the stars.
