Phillips says in her new memoir, "High on Arrival", that she confronted John, who died in March 2001, about their sordid past, saying, "We have to talk about when you raped me."
John replied, according to his daughter, "You mean when we made love?"
Phillips is now 49 years old and has survived drug addiction, arrests and divorce. She was fired from her role on the popular show "One Day at a Time" in 1980 because of her drug use.
In her book she writes, "On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it," writes Phillips, who was 19 and a heavy drug user at the time. "I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad's bed."
She was 19 years old.
"My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father."
Eventually her drug addiction became even worse and she entered rehab. She then toured with her father's group, The Mamas and The Papas. At that point her sexual relationship with her father had become consensual.
Mackenzie Phillips will talk candidly with Oprah tomorrow at 4pm EST about her sexual relationship with her father, the same day her book will be officially released. Her book tells of her difficult life including her fling with Mick Jagger, what her family said about her rape accusations and her fears that she was pregnant with her own father's baby.
