The new price for the Wii will take effect on Sunday, September 27. This price change will hopefully help the video gaming industry which has been in a slump from since March.
The Wii has never been sold at a discount since it hit the stores. The $50 reduction in price will surely bring in some customers who have been debating about buying it. The new price will include the Wii remote controller, nunchuk and "Wii Sports" game.
The Wii is a home video game console released by Nintendo in 2006. A distinguishing feature of the console is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can be used as a hand held pointing device and detect movement in three dimensions. Another distinctive feature of the console is WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the Internet while in standby mode.
Several other game consoles have been reduced in price in light of sluggish sales. Sales of the PlayStation 3 video game console jumped in the weeks after a $100 price cut last month. In the US, Sony's slim-line PS3 goes for $300, and Microsoft sells a basic version of the Xbox 360 for $200. There is also an "Elite" model for $300. Microsoft's also selling its discontinued Xbox 360 Pro for $250 and running a $50 rebate promotion on the Xbox 360 Elite through October 5th.
The Nintendo Wii is sold in most major retail stores and online. The price change will take effect Sunday, September 27 and is set to be $199.
