Clifton Maloney was founder and president of C.H.W. Maloney & Co., Inc., a private investment firm established in 1981, according to his profile on Forbes.com. He also served as a vice president in investment banking at Goldman, Sachs & Co. from 1974 to 1984.
In 1976, Clifton Maloney married Carolyn Bosher, who is now a congresswoman for New York's 14th congressional district since 1993. The couple had two daughters, Christina and Virginia.
According to a report in Politico:
The Navy veteran apparently died after reaching the summit of Cho Oyu, the world's sixth-highest mountain at 27,000 feet, about 10 miles away from Mt. Everest ... A short while after, Clif Maloney began the dangerous descent, hungry, tired and short of oxygen. reaching a base camp located at 23,000 feet, he rested and woke up Friday morning, telling a companion: "I'm the happiest man in the world -- I have just climbed a beautiful mountain." He went to back to sleep and never woke up, according to the account.
Carl Silverberg, Maloney's political consultant, sent an e-mail this morning announcing the death to supporters. "The family is in the process of making funeral plans and appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult moment," he wrote.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Carolyn Maloney and told her she was making arrangements to have her husband Clifton Maloney's body returned the states.
