Kate Gosselin, half of TLC's much talked about Jon and Kate Plus 8 show, appeared on the Today Show this morning. She revealed that Jon had emptied their joint account of more than $200,000, leaving her with only $1,000 and unable to pay her bills. She is also considering having her wedding ring remounted with eight small diamonds.
Kate told Today Show host Meredith Vieira that under the Gosselins’ agreement with TLC, the network will stop filming if either she or Jon make such a request. Kate wants to honor her contract and continue with the show, which TLC is planning to change to "Kate plus 8".
“It has ended our income and our paychecks and our opportunities,” Kate told Vieira. “I wish Jon would think more about it.”
She did mention, however, that Jon Gosselin did not touch their eight children’s money, which Kate said remains safe in protected funds she established.
Kate Gosselin said that she cannot sleep at night. She is worried that she will not be able to pay her bills. Kate also confirmed that earlier this year, she had taken $100,000 out of the account to prevent her husband from taking it.
“I removed it to keep it safe,” she told Vieira. “I had taken $100,000 and put it aside safely so I could buy my kids food if needed.”
That would buy quite a bit of food.
It is obvious that the teary eyed Kate is very worried about becoming a struggling single Mom with only $1,000 left in the bank. However, she does not appear to be someone who will end up in line applying for food stamps. She confirmed that she has a show in the works with Paula Deen and is also filling in as guest host on the View. She must be secure in the fact that she's drawing a paycheck from any work she is involved in, including sales proceeds from her book.
It is likely that Kate Gosselin is not going to be out on the street with $1,000...or out on the street at all. $1,000 is actually far more than most people who are scraping by have when they are in a financial bind.
On TODAY Kate Gosselin wore the wedding ring from the renewal of her wedding vows with Jon in Hawaii last year. She said she is considering getting her wedding ring remounted with eight small diamonds to represent her eight children.
Hopefully she won't use her last $1,000 to buy the diamonds for the newly re-styled ring.
Kate's worries aside, Jon Gosselin will likely find himself in a bit of hot water this week. He may be asked to replace the money he took for the couple's joint account. Question is, what if he spent it all on Ed Hardy shirts? How will they recover it?
