Halo Video Game Inspires Books, Action Figures

The 2001 blockbuster video-game release, Halo, was just the beginning for game developer Bungie. About 2.5 million people bought the latest Halo 3: ODST game since its release two weeks ago. Now there are some retail offspring in the works: action figures, videos, comics and books.

Halo on the big screen is on hold right now, so toys, videos and books will have to do. The movie, originally planned with director Peter Jackson, is not going to happen quite yet. Perhaps it will get started after the next game is out. Halo: Reach is in production by Bungie and due out next year.

Some of the spin-offs from the Halo video games may be out in time for Christmas, making easy gift choices for Halo fans. Halo based comics are already out with Issue 3 of the five-issue Marvel Comics series Halo: Helljumper arriving in stores now. If you're a comic book fan, once the five issues series is out, a new series, Halo: Blood Line, starts Dec. 23.

Action figures are being produced by McFarlane Toys with a sixth edition of Halo action figures out in October. Prices range from $10-13 and include "The Rookie" from Halo 3: ODST.

In November, is the book collection Halo: Evolutions. A trilogy is also in the works, with the first volume out next year.

If the games, toys and books aren't enough for Halo fans, a collection of seven episodes of Halo Legends will be out next year. These episodes will be previewed this fall on the Halo Waypoint channel on the Xbox Live network.
