The Presidents Cup will air live on the Golf Channel Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Coverage will continue on NBC Saturday and Sunday.
The Presidents Cup is a team golf competition featuring the best players from the United States against the best non-European players from around the world. It was developed by the PGA Tour to be a Ryder Cup-style event that would include players from countries who had never competed in the Ryder Cup. Teams first played for the Cup in 1994 and the event is played every two years.
The 2009 Presidents Cup will be held at Harding Park Golf Course from October 6-11. Fred Couples will captain the U.S. Team with the help of Assistant Captain Jay Haas.
One of the more popular teams to watch will be Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker. Tiger Woods is making his sixth Presidents Cup appearance and this will be Steve Stricker's third time at the Presidents Cup.
Woods and Stricker will be partners in the opening session at the 2009 Presidents Cup. They will face Ryo Ishikawa and Geoff Ogilvy at a tee time of 3:10pm EST. Ishikawa is the 18-year-old Japanese sensation who is who gets the kind of attention in Japan that Woods gets around the world. Geoff Ogilvy is one of the best in match play over the last four years.
Tiger Woods, rumored to be the the first athlete to earn $1 billion, was born December 30, 1975. He has two children with his wife, Elin. This is Tiger's sixth appearance at the Presidents Cup. His record is 13-11-1.
Steve Stricker, born February 23, 1967, will be playing today in his third Presidents Cup. He is married with two daughters. His wife, Nicki, was his caddy before the couple had children. His Presidents Cup record is 5-5-0.
