Lawyers for Jon and Kate Gosselin were in court yesterday for arbitration over the couple's latest dispute. In true reality show style, the couple have had more than their share of disputes over anything ranging from money, Jon's supposed affairs and his temper tantrum when he was told TLC was changing the name of the show to "Kate Plus 8".
Perhaps TLC, the network that carries Jon and Kate Plus 8, has an angle here. Maybe this divorce and all of the subsequent malarkey is good for ratings, which is good for TLC. Which is not good for the 8 children involved. A miraculous return to married life, renewing their vows for a second time would certainly bring back some disenchanted fans. Very Hollywood.
According to Kate Gosselin's lawyer, Mark Momjian,"The remaining sum of $55,000, which Ms. Gosselin used for household bills and expenses relating to the children, will be subject to further determination by the arbitrator at a later date."
Looks like Jon Gosselin will be facing contempt if he doesn't get that money back to the couple's joint account by October 26th. Kate is not off the hook by any means: Kate, for her part, by the same date she has to detail what expenses she's been spending money on. Her recent wish to add 8 diamonds to restyle her wedding band might be on that list. The judge will likely see that as a reasonable expense.
A drawn out and over-publicized divorce is going to be the norm for Jon and Kate Gosselin. Kate's most recent comment of "Now that this matter has been ruled on, I look forward to returning to private arbitration, as we have agreed to do, to resolve any remaining issues" sounds just a bit unrealistic. Reality television does mesh well with the word 'private'.
